Flagler’s Finest: Pamela Morrow

Wow! That’s what I am saying about this new segment that I will call Flagler’s Finest…interviews about people you pass around town and maybe were even in line behind the other day.

We will begin with a Fabulous woman named Pamela Morrow.  You may recognize her from behind the counter of the cool little coffee shop, BeachHouse Beanery.  She has a beaming smile and a secret, her amazing ability to transform trash into treasure…REALLY!!

She takes plastic bags that the regular people throw away and transforms them into functional works of art.  Fusing plastic is the technical term, her spin is the magical sewing part when it becomes a tote bag, purse, wallet, you name it and she can stitch it together.

The name of her company is The Only Girl.  I asked what inspired the name and she said, “I’ve got four grandkids and was trying to think of a way to incorporate all their names,  as I sat thinking I said aloud…awe, poor Kaia..she’s the only girl..”  A star is born.

Although each project is different from the next, it takes Pam roughly eight hours to complete a bag.  She sells them in her online Etsy shop, small boutiques, and currently at GOLA.  Most of her sales are custom orders through friends.  One of her most recent was for a women who traveled to Spain.  The women’s sister asked her to save all her plastic shopping bags so Pam could later work her magic.   The lady is a teacher at Matanzas High School and her sister wanted her to have a nifty tote bag to start off the year.  Well she received a one of a kind tote with all the zippered and pocket trimmings and a matching purse.  Awesome!

Pam’s favorite bag to date is this pirate Volcom design…

This is one of her newest items… the wristlet…she even makes her own tags from recyclable materials 🙂

Pamela has lived in Flagler County for over 19 years with her family.  She is extremely fond of our small beachside town and states, “it doesn’t get any better than this.”

I’m “green with envy” over her” green” craftiness and am positive that Flagler Beach is lucky to have her!!  To find Pam you can look here:  http://www.etsy.com/shop/theonlygirl and can read more about her here:  Glue and Glitter a cool blog about green crafters 🙂 or email her directly: cpinmaui@msn.com

Oh and I asked Pam if she ever surfed… “oh yeah! Tim (Deaton) has put me out there on a long board.”  Nice.

I knew she was cool! 🙂  — Cheers

**Update** Pam is now head of the Flagler Beach Organic Community Garden-=- check it out..it’s delicious!
