Santore and Sons…snaps, crackles, BOOMS!

Flagler County can thank their lucky stars for fireworks local’s Santore and sons.  I am pretty sure that there is no other county in America who can cancel their July 4th Independence Day celebratory fireworks show, at the last minute decide to overturn their decision, and then get blown out of the sky with one of the best displays of sparkly lights I have seen in a while.  A big high five to you amazing pyrotechnics!

As for the rest of our four day beach party weekend…I must say it was a success, meaning we can’t wait to do it all again next year.

The Friday kick-off was the best attended and coolest Flagler Beach First Friday yet with front row free parking donated by the Flagler Beach Farmer’s Market.  The Halifax Contraband rocked the stage as people spread out on the lawn before them with blankets, chairs, and good vibes.  The first ever “decorate you golf cart contest” was triumphant with the “Coolest Cart” Award going to Judy and Scott McNitt for their fire engine, complete with siren and smoke.   The STUFF Bus parked their needs and wishes at the party and had the most successful fundraiser ever, gaining much needed donations for Flagler County students.  The first ever community tie-dye painted the horizon red, white, and blue as big and little kids lined up to get their hands dirty with some artsy-craft fun.   Some of the business folks had there best night ever and Rusty, the un-official Mayor, threw the biggest birthday bash on the top deck of Finn’s to close down the night.

The following day was a shopper’s dream as our local retail store with heart Christmas Come True, Inc. held its first Summer Taste & Treasure Hunt, bringing people around to our local shops for surprises and delights, as well as exposing them to all the goods we have.  The Golden Lion was also living up to their “Best Waterside Beach Bar Award” as they hosted a beach party with Pango Rum, DJ Vern and Beach 92.7 and bikini clad volleyball players.

It was a day of rest for most folks on Sunday except for David Ayres from Beach 92.7, as he continued to broadcast from Veterans Park, trying to entice folks with chances to win a boat, truck, and kayak full of Yuengling beer.

Then Monday came as it always does, except our little beach town was full with thousands of people roaming the streets to watch the annual July 4th parade.

Once the rolling party ended the 2nd Annual Cornhole Toss began followed by a Watermelon Eating Contest, Lil Kahuna and Ms. Tiny Tiki Event, Hot Dog Americana Eating Contest Sponsored by Chi Dog and to end on a high note, the 2nd Annual Battle of the Bands sponsored by Mason’s Music.

As our OOhs, Ahhs and Yahoos from fireworks excitement settled we cheered for the band winners and local favorites Elevator 9, as they serenaded us with an encore set to end the evening of festivities.

It was truly a great day to be in Flagler Beach.  Cheers.
