Flagler Surf Star: Jonathan Eden

Some of us aren’t quite so lucky… to learn to surf on vacation in Hawaii with their Pops, but when you pair that with hard work eventually the luck runs out and what you have left is talent.

Flagler Surf Star: Jonathan Eden

Jonathan started surfing at the young age of 6 but it wasn’t until a July 4th impromptu Surf clinic headed by Will Tant that his surfing made a transition.  Jimmy Blumenfeld ended up with Jonathan as a student that day and afterwards he became his coach and leader into the realm of competitive surfing.

Now 16- here are his points of view of where his surfing is headed-

What are your competitive surfing goals? Basically I am just trying to surf the best I can until I head off to college.

So what do you want to be when you grow up?  Dermatologist- it’s good to know your skin (Jonathan lives by our house adage “Bowler says wear your sunscreen”—he is also a ginger; so protection is key to survival in the spotlight of the sun )

What is your training routine to be your best?  Surfing and working with my coach Jamie Ridgewell: he’s helped me to build confidence and taught me that you get back what you put out.  I also work out at least four times a week- building strength is key.

Surfing rituals? Stretching!

What are some of your major surfing accomplishments? winning districts in St. Augustine- Jr. Men’s division, Top 5 at Easterns Rip Curl GromSearch, Top 16 at 2012  Rip Curl GromSearch Nationals.

Favorite Surf Breaks?  Boca Barranca, Costa Rica / Domes, Puerto Rico / Ponce Inlet, Florida – (for 16 he’s a quite well traveled young man)

Dream Surf Trip? Nicaragua with my dad and all my buddies.

Life Motto: trying everyday to live the “Golden Rule.”

Special Thanks: my parents, Jamie Ridegwell and Jimmy Blumenfeld– Sponsors: Intuit, HIC Surfboards, Triple X Surf Shop, Sun Bum

What do you like most about Flagler Beach? small buildings…we haven’t been taken over:)

It was nice to have a quick chat as the sun blazed down upon us–Wishing Jonathan great success in surfing and school! and a premium membership compliments of Surfline-

Cheers- Flagler Surf
