Citrus Festival @ Washington Oaks State Park

February 11, 2012

Hosted by Friends of Washington Oaks

The annual Citrus Harvest Festival together with our popular Second Saturday Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, February 11th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The Historical Gardens within the park contain a citrus grove with several varieties of oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons and limes, providing the perfect environment for you to enhance your knowledge of citrus. There will be guided tours of the historic citrus grove at 10:30 am and again at 2:00 pm.

The Flying Dragon Citrus Nursery of Jacksonville will be selling cold-hardy citrus trees in 3 and 5 gallon containers.

At 11 am  there will be a program on cooking with citrus by Ruth Micieli of  Simple Gourmet followed by a tasting. Other activities will include a plant clinic and the Friends of Washington Oaks will offer for sale “home-made” baked goods featuring citrus together with hot and cold beverages.

Our Second Saturday ‘Sweetheart’ Plant Sale will feature unusual and hard to find gift plants for the one you love as well as bags of fresh picked citrus.  The Gift Shop will be open with some ‘sale’ merchandise.

Regular park entrance fees apply for the event.  For more information contact Melissa Kafel at 386-446-6783, or email [email protected].
